East Bonner County Area 9B & Boundary County Area 11 Regional Program

COMMENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Register your over-snow vehicles for Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation Areas 9B (East Bonner County) or 11 (Boundary County) to support this regional program.  Lake Pend Oreille Region snowmobile trail maps are available at area dealerships and Forest Service offices.

 

The Sandpoint & Bonners Ferry Area Groomer Report is available online under Groomer Reports at www.idahostatesnowmachineassociation.org   The Sandpoint Winter Riders, Inc. Snowmobile Club information is available online under Club Finder at www.idahostatesnowmachineassociation.org.  Sandpoint Winter Riders is also on Facebook at www.facebook.com/SandpointWinterRiders.  The new Idaho State Snowmobile Association website is at www.idahosnow.org and it is a work in progress.

 

Be aware of the conditions.  Ride smart and with a friend!.  Be avalanche aware.  Check the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center forecasts and training information at http://www.idahopanhandleavalanche.org/  Check out avalanche courses by the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation and the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center.

 

TRESTLE CREEK & LIGHTNING CREEK:

ATTENTION: The snowplow turnaround at Trestle Creek Road is located on PRIVATE PROPERTY. It is posted NO TRESPASSING and NO PARKING. Anyone parking there is subject to being TOWED and/or CITED. Please respect the landowner’s private property and stay out. NO PARKING THERE!

Caribou Closures in the Selkirk Mountains are still in effect while the USFS Winter Travel Planning Process for the Kaniksu National Forest (Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, and Priest Lake Ranger Districts) is completed.  IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE CLOSURE BOUNDARIES - DON'T GO!  Get the maps at USFS offices or USFS website at www.fs.fed.us/ipnf/

ROMAN NOSE:

Trails and groomed routes from Fall/Highland Flats and Ruby cross private Stimson timber ground.  For 2019-2020 there is a no off trail riding requirement on Stimson and IDL property.  Please refer to the Map available online and at the trailhead.  If you don't know your location, stay on the trail until Ruby saddle.

Ruby Creek (8.0 Miles):              1/15/2020  - Stay on Trail until USFS. ROAD WASHOUT AT 1 MILE!!

Roman Nose Lakes (1.5 Miles):  2/17/2020
Snow Creek (16.5 Miles):            2/17/2020 - Logging to almost Caribou Pass. Road Plowed.


HIGH DRIVE (JOHNSON, TWIN, & DRY):

This area connects to Kootenai County grooming.

Smith Creek (11 Miles):  Grooming unlikely until USFS Kaniksu Winter Travel Plan Update completed.  Open areas are very few and most everything is closed.  STAY OUT OF THE CLOSURES.


IPNF Kaniksu Winter Travel Planning is stalled again.  Stay involved! Call the District Ranger (Sandpoint) and the Forest Supervisor (CDA) to let them know it has been far too long to complete.
